I feel I must tell others how I feel about the complete lack of service from my local council. I am a council Tennant living in Ushaw Moor, and have had continuing problems with my old wooden single glazed windows in house, the the lower part of the frame of my bedroom window has rotted and totally come away from my window. The whole window itself is rotting, and coming away from its housing. This was of course reported, an arrangement was made for an inspector to visit the property on the morning, but for some reason they came out on the afternoon, all he did was a quick look at the outside of the window, which would have given him no indication of the state of the window. The work to be carried out only involves direct glazing of the window, which basically means removing one part of the window which opens and placing a piece of glass in its place. Of course this is an absolute waste of time as the whole window is rotting and coming away from its housing. The whole window needs replacing, ideally with UPvc units, in fact Oakridge Road and Broom Crescent need new windows, for some reason the council in their "wisdom" did 99% of ushaw moor with double glazing but failed to do this in broom crescent and oakridge road. The joiners who came out on other occasions state its because "we are on a bus route" DOH what the logic in that, come on get these windows sorted, we are living in badly insulated cold and damp dwellings, there is no need for it.

I sympathise with you, I am having similar problems. I live in Oakridge Road and have had a repair done to my rear bedroom window, part of the window that opened hat rotted and the bottom of the frame had totally dropped out, The repair consisted of direct glazing a pain of glass into the problem area. Now I cannot open the window. My front Bedroom is even worse, and I am still waiting for a repair, the whole of the dorma is leaking when it rains to such a degree that the water runs onto the floor. The frame of the window is rotting including the weather-board above the window itself, which is hanging off and rotting badly. The felt on the roof of this window is split in several places and a hole is visible, each time it rains the water flows through this hole into the bedroom. The repair needed in this case should consist of stripping back all the split and rotting wood and felt, replacing frame with new timber, and replace the window with a UPvC unit. The Council seem to have to intention of replacing our windows with PVC units, despite replacing the rest of Ushaw Moor. I am now fed up, I have heard that the council are hoping to fit UPvc units in the remainder of the village by 2009. This simply is not good enough, we should not have to live in these conditions, and should expect a decent level of living conditions within council property. Now just look at some of the windows in Oakridge and Broom cresent some of the houses now have new windows EG Double Glazing surely the council can see the state of the windows they have changed.
The windows have not been renewed for 10 yrs or more.
