Hi I was born at 49 Temperance Terrace in 1945, moved to Ash Avenue in 1949 and later moved to Broom Crescent as our family grew. I, along with my family, left the area for the Notts. coalfields in the sixties and I and my family now live in North Yorkshire. I originally came upon the website in the course of researching my family history and was moved by the memories of Ushaw Moor as it was when I was growing up in the village. Most of what I read I had forgotten . Congratulations on a excellent website .
Does anyone in Ushaw Moor remember a THOMAS FREDERICK HALL who was married to MARY JANE HALL (maiden name of THIRKELL) and lived at 49 Temperance Terrace until 1974. Thomas Frederick was my grandfather and one of 13 children living in a cottage at St Johns Green, Witton Gilbert in 1901. I have now come to realize that I knew nothing about my grandparents and the rest of his family and curiosity and nothing else has got me sitting at 2.00 am posting this to your website. Sad I know but I am on my holidays.

9 year olds and bedrooms? you really need to make it a condition for treats, or pocket money. Threaten to take out the play station or TV, unless its kept to a reasonable standard. but at the end of the day don't be too strict, its not the end of the world for their rooms not to be spick n span to adult standards, its their space, somewhere they can feel comfortable, relax, do the homework or chill! my kids used to say, if you don't like it don't look!!, but once they started bringing friends and girlfriends round they got tidier!

Yup, when you look at the dates of some of the posts, its a shame that not many people are actually participating in the forum, the numbers of views are really high! i must admit, i have been looking at this site for years now, but never joined in, mainly as it seemed to be a forum for complaints and negativity on quite a few subjects, but i must say Cloughie did an excellent job of putting forward correct information, and other points of view. I think some publicity would be an excellent idea, nothing expensive just a few posters in key places, if it hasn't already been done recently.

Hi bettyboop and welcome aboard, yes it is a shame more people are not posting, I have tried very hard in the past to get more interest in the FORUM and the Community Site, but did not really get anywhere. I am in the process of updating the Com Site but don't have much time. I tend to feel now that I am wasting my time, the only successful part of the site is the Memories Page, which gets quite a lot of input. Anyway good to see you. ushawmoormemories.blog.com/Paul
