Durham's Fish and Seafood Specialist InDoor Market
In 1986, IK Fish was formed in Durham City by Ian Kennedy. In the early days Ian sold mainly cod and haddock. Although as a fishmonger, his own tastes in seafood were much more ambitious than just the run of the mill varieties of fish that were readily available.
Towards the beginning of the 90's, Ian soon realised that more and more people wanted to eat exotic fish than previously. Mainly because of TV cookery programmes and travel. So he decided to stock more unusual varieties of fish and seafood.
In 1996, when eventually Durham Indoor Market opened 6 days a week, the business really started to take-off and he was always trying to market his fishmongers in different ways.
Soon into the early 2000's, Ian and Malcolm Pearce wrote the first of a two-part series of books called "The Easy Cook Fish Book", which was highly successful. It was even endorsed by Rick Stein and also had a recipe which was used for the Queen following her visit in the Anniversay Year.
Ian specialises in the supply of local produce and is very passionate about his fish. He gives free advice on fish and seafood to any new customers and those who meet him, soon realise the importance of local traders in the community. Ian knows his fish and seafood better than anyone in Durham. He also visits local infant schools in Durham to promote healthy eating amongst children; a subject that I know is close to everybody, including Jamie Oliver.
Ian often provides his quality local fish and seafood for cookery demonstrations in Durham City by world renowned chefs such as Mark Earnden.
So if you want to know what fish or seafood to buy and how to cook it then visit Durham's Premier Fishmonger, Ian Kennedy at I K Fish in Durham Indoor Market
