Hello, my name is Michael Oakes, Although I live in the midlands now, I was born at Wardley Colliery near Gateshead. very glad to find this site as My Grandmother was born at Sleetburn and in 1901 at three years of age lived in Ushaw Moor at No 15 Ushaw Terrace/Red Row, just curious to know if that same street is there, or flattened like so many others.

Hello everyone. I am also pleased to discover this site. My Great-Grandfather lived and worked at Ushaw moor and indeed he and my great-Grandmother are buried there. They lived on Ladysmith Terrace and are listed in the 1911 (My grandad is listed in the census at the age of 1 and his brother aged 3). His name was Edward Henry Graham and he worked as a stone mason at the pit. My great grandmother, Hannah Graham was orginally called Hannah Hodgeson from New Brancepeth. Thanks to everyone who has shared some old memories on the site and all the photos. It has been great to see a little bit of our past. Ne Oublie, Reiver
